Galactogogues

galactagogue or galactogogue (pronounced gah-lak´tah-gog) is something that can help a breastfeeding mother to increase her breast milk supply. The word itself is a combination of the Greek terms "galact-" meaning milk, and "-ogogue" meaning leading to or promoting.

Our ingredients:

Brewer's yeast

Brewer's yeast is made from the fungus Saccharomyces cerevisiae and has long been touted to help maintain a healthy milk supply. It's also a highly nutritious dietary supplement that contains protein, iron, and B vitamins, as well as chromium, selenium, and other trace minerals. Not only can Brewer’s yeast provide mothers with energy and may help sustain healthy skin, hair and eyes but can be used as a dietary supplement while you're breastfeeding which helps to boost your protein, iron, and B vitamins levels which may help to combat fatigue and fight off the baby blues.

Flaxseed meal

Flaxseed meal contains all sorts of healthy components which it owes its primary healthy reputation to three of them: omega-3 (essential fatty acids), lignans and fibre. A women’s milk is supercharged with heavy amounts of Omega-3 due to the brain, rapidly growing in our babies, which are dependent on these fatty acids, so it is important for the mother not to be deficient in Omega-3 (something that many women are) and risk her baby not getting enough for optimal health, development and well-being.

Oats

Oats are among the healthiest grains on earth, loaded with important vitamins, minerals and antioxidant plant compounds. These grains are not the only key to maintaining a healthy milk supply but can also lower cholesterol levels, reduced blood sugar and insulin response and growth of good bacteria in the digestive tract. Oats also increase your feeling of fullness due to its high levels of healthy calories – nursing mothers need calories! We suggest that along with our oat filled lactation cookies that you consume oatmeal for breakfast topped with our “Boobie Blend” which may be helpful in maintaining a full milk supply. Also, with dc "oats" being such a comfort food for women this can help with relaxation which in turn helps with the let-down effect.

Pumpkin seeds

Pumpkin seeds are a rich source of iron, protein and fibre. Iron is essential for proper nerve cell development and the specialization of certain brain cells. Both mums and babies need an adequate dietary intake of iron for developing blood supplies. Just 1 ounce of pumpkin seeds meet nearly half of the daily recommendation of iron for breastfeeding mums.

Chamomile is a soother having a calming effect on both the mother and baby as well as being a known galactagogue (milk-enhancer).
